Malic acid powder is a type of dicarboxylic acid that is produced by all animals and is found in many sour fruits and vegetables. The name comes from the Latin word for apple, "malus," as it was first isolated from apple juice in 1785. DL-malic acid powder is made from a combination of D-malic acid and the naturally occurring L-malic acid. Malic acid is commonly used in sour candies to give a sour, tart flavor.
